18 art department doorstops

with associate wedge works

2016
c-type prints on archival paper and short edition zine

In response to an invitation to show in the exhibition WORK at the Mills Centre, London, I produced the photographic series 18 Art Department Doorstops and the publication Associate Wedge Works.
Gathering all the doorstops in my place of work, Highgate School Art Department, their locations were logged, they were individually documented then returned to their source locations.
The resulting typological prints were displayed in a grid that referenced the order in which the doorstops were found.
Working in collaboration with colleagues and students, both past and current, the short edition zine Associated Wedge Works brought together multi-disciplinary responses to this work.
A writer, musicians, a philosopher and other visual artists produced pieces which linked directly and indirectly to 18 Art Department Doorstops. This publication can be considered as an exhibition within an exhibition and questions how we delineate and differentiate between specialist places of work, with their established specialist skills, crafts and knowledge.
